The farm organism for planetary health

A biodynamic perspective on climate change, ecological balance and the responsibility of the farmers for our agriculture future

Course description

In this online course the essential aspects of the biodynamic core concept, the farm organism, will be presented and discussed. In addition to theoretical background knowledge, the course will pay special attention to presenting methods, tools and mindsets from worldwide biodynamic practice. More details can be found in the program below.


This course is designed to support people who work in the field of biodynamic agriculture in particular advisory services, training, coordination or research. As the course is practice-oriented farmers or people working in agricultural/environmental organizations are also highly welcome.

Course leader & main contributors

Lin Bautze

Lin Bautze works since April 2019 for the Section for Agriculture. She studied Global Change Management (M.Sc.) and Environmental and Resource Management (B.Sc.). Afterwards she could gain practical experience in (scientific) cooperation with and on organic farms working in the research field. At the section, she is the project manager of Living Farms and supporting other projects and communication tasks around climate change and biodynamic farming.

Jean-Michel Florin

Studied agriculture and nature conservation, coordinator of the biodynamic association in France (MABD) and trainer for bd farming, author and editor of books and journals, expert and speaker on the subjects: Goethean approach of nature, medicinal plants, landscape, viticulture, etc. Since 2010 Head of the Section for Agriculture.


Program

 

The course lasts four weeks, with a maximum weekly workload of 6h, of which a 3h15min face-to-face.
It is structured using various components and designed in such a way that it can easily be attended on a part-time basis. Practical exercises as well as self-study and peer group learning accompany and connect the regular live sessions during the four weeks of the course. Participation terms

This course is designed to support people who work in the field of biodynamic agriculture in particular advisory services, training, coordination or research. As the course is practice-oriented farmers or people working in agricultural/environmental organizations are also highly welcome. As in-depth course it addresses mainly people who already have some previous knowledge and are connected to the organic/biodynamic movement. A basic interest in the anthroposophical background, as well as the will to explore the subject in depth, should be present.
