Across the globe, desert areas are expanding—fertile land is disappearing, and the foundations of life are under threat. But there is hope: initiatives in the Sahara region demonstrate how biodynamic and regenerative agriculture can bring forth new life, even under the harshest conditions.
In partnership with Culturescapes and SEKEM, we warmly invite you to this thematic day at the Goetheanum. Guests from biodynamic initiatives in North Africa, along with experts in agriculture and agroforestry, will share their experiences transforming degraded soils into vibrant ecosystems, fostering community-based economic models, and building responsible value chains that connect producers in desert regions with conscious consumers.
The success stories of these initiatives are marked by resilience, innovation, and a deep respect for indigenous cultures. They illustrate how working with the Earth can once again offer dignity and future prospects—both locally and globally, for current and future generations.
The day will also feature performances by African artists and an exhibition of biodynamically dyed textiles from Egypt.
With:
- Helmy Abouleish, CEO of Sekem, Egypt
- Taleb Brahim, Agronomist, Algeria
- Roland Frutig, Agroforestry Expert, Switzerland
