  1. Section for Agriculture

Feet on the ground, head in the stars

100 years of biodynamics at the Goetheanum: A Celebration for people and Nature

Over 800 people, young and old, accepted the invitation from the nursery and the Section for Agriculture to celebrate its centenary. This was not just a celebration of a farming method but a collective tribute to the earth and all that it provides. The festival aimed to immerse us in Nature's diverse elements, engage our senses, and celebrate its bounties through agriculture.

On this glorious Whit Sunday, the only sunny day in two weeks of rain, the garden was alive with people, all eager to participate in the activities on offer. The atmosphere was filled with vibrant colours, delightful scents, infectious smiles, hearty laughter, unexpected surprises, and pure fun, creating a sense of joy that was palpable!

The day began in a down-to-earth way with the creation of a spiral from various local soils, showing how the flora and fauna transform the limestone of the Jura into good garden soil. Afterwards, the participants spread out in the park: some observed life in the compost, others explored the colours of the earth and some discovered anew that humans live between the world and the sky.

We continued with the discovery of the plant world, which at this time of year covers the earth with a lively, colourful, wonderfully fragrant skin of flowers and blossoms. For lunch, we could also savour the aromatic flowers in delicious salads.

Afterwards, the world of the animals followed, with the bees and everything they offered us: wax, honey, and so on. Some took the time to observe and even draw the cows of the garden park in full action!

The finale was under the venerable "Felsli" oak tree – a special place symbolising our connection between heaven and earth. A concert with animal horns accompanied us as we stirred a biodynamic preparation and sprayed together in the field.

We can assume that everyone went home with soil on their shoes, stars in their eyes, and a heart delighted by the beauty of our earth. This is a concrete and lively incentive to change our view of Nature with the help of biodynamics!
