This meeting was part of the preconferences before the big Agriculture Conference for the celebration of 100 years of biodynamic agriculture. Researchers from different countries including UK, Egypt, Denmark, Germany, Slovenia, New Zealand, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Brasil, and Mexico, working or interested in biodynamic food and farming, joined the event.
Through a diversity of activities the day sought to generate opportunities to facilitate networking between researchers, deepen into different topics of interest and to exchange some of the most recent research activities and projects in biodynamics. Among many insightful presentations, these include the innovative work carried out by Benjamin Eppler and Angela Hoffman in "Potentized Preparations", the rich study by Jürgen Fritz on "The Biodynamic Preparations and the plant growth-promoting microorganisms", the interesting presentation by Cyrille Rigolot that explored the transdisciplinary nature of biodynamic farming research, and the innovative work drawn from anthropology by Julia Wright.
With the goal to exchange visions and ideas on how research can better serve the development of the wider biodynamic movement, the day ended with a dialogue session to which biodynamic growers and advisors were invited. What kind of research is needed to better support biodynamic farmers? How to make research more accessible? Were some of the questions exchanged. One of the main reflections of the day is the importance of continuing to promote instances of mutual dialogue and collaboration, not only between researchers, but also with the various actors of the movement. It is now a task for the whole movement to contribute to the development of quality and impactful research that can serve biodynamic practitioners in their changing and growing needs.
In order to further promote Biodynamic research around the world we are already planning an International Research Conference in Autumn 2025.
In 2024 we will continue to carry out various activities to grow and strengthen the IBRP community. Among others we are scheduling several online seminars throughout the year, and we welcome contributions. Would you like to present your research work or a topic of interest?
