Rudolf Steiner got to know the herbalist Felix Koguzki (1833-1909) at the start of his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Vienna, very probably on the train (1879/1880).

He was able to get close to this man ('we became friends'), whose immense knowledge of nature, you could say his wisdom of nature, he soon learned more about, in part through early morning walks together to the plants. 'On his back he carried a bundle of medicinal plants; but in his heart he carried the results that he had gained from the spirit of nature on his collecting forays...'

In the company of Koguzki he was able to 'have deep insights into the secrets of nature'. Koguzki was 'completely initiated in the secrets of the effects of all the plants and their connection with the cosmos and with human nature'.

This lecture by Peter Selg brings to life this hidden figure, whom Rudolf Steiner also brought into his Mystery Dramas in a different form, creating a memorial to him, and explores the meaning for his further path, all the way to Koberwitz.
